Spin Rods (Medium)

Medium Weight Spin Fishing Rods, Ideal for Snapper, Squid and Salmon

The easiest way to understand whether your rod selection is appropriate for the fishing conditions is to look at the line rating. To over simplify, if you are targeting a 60cm Snapper (usually around 4kg), although in theory you could land it on a 1-3kg rod, (if you set your drag light enough and there is no structure around) you are probably not giving yourself the best chance of landing the fish. There are also many others factors to consider such as the weight of the lure or sinker, whether you are casting, jigging or just dropping a line and of course how quickly you want to land the fish.

On this particular section of the site we have categorised all of these spin rods as having a medium line rating. We have included all rods that are rated from 3kg up to 10kg, and you can filter your selection by using the "Shop By" filter on the left (on desktop) or hit the refine button (on mobile)

A 3-5 kg rod is an extremely versatile rod for Australian Conditions and will suit most Inshore, and Estuary conditions. Usually the go-to size for people searching for a large flathead, where they match it with a good quality 2500 spin reel and 8lb braid.

As soon as fishos start heading off shore to target Snapper and the like, they tend to fish a little heavier with something in and around the 5-10kg range and match it to at least 4000 sized reel with a 20lb braid or mono.
