Beach Fishing Rods

Surf Fishing Rods, Ideal for Whiting, Tailor, Mulloway and Trevally

When fishing in the Surf or on the Beach you generally need a longer rod and to fish a little heavier then when fishing in calmer waters. You need the longer rod so that you can cast further to get out to the gutters and you need a heavier rod as you may need to use a heavier sinker to stop your bait from getting thrown around all over the place. For example, in an estuary you may use a 1-3kg 7 foot rod to target Whiting or Bream, but in the Surf you would want to use a 10 foot 3-5kg rod.

Surf Rods can also be used when fishing from the rocks, jetties, piers and off rock walls. Having that added length makes it possible to avoid bust offs and snags.

As these rods are longer it usually makes sense to pair them up with a slightly bigger reel so that the setup has a good balance and then you also have the added benfit of more line capacity for when you punch out those long casts.
