Popper Lures and Surface Lures

Fishing with lures on the surface has definetely got to be one of the most exciting ways to fish. It is so visual and nothing beats that feeling when you see the water explode behind your lure and then you hook up. There are so many different species that you can target on the surface and also many different types of lures with different actions.

Poppers Lures

Poppers have a cupped face, which means when you drag it along the surface, it creates a large splash or disturbance. These are especially popular with fishos wanting to target GTs, but are also effective for most pelagic species. Whether you are fishing the wash or casting in at a bust up under the birds, you can use a surface lure. People also use very small poppers to target whiting and bream in the summer months and this is just as fun if you are using light gear.

Stick Baits

Stick baits are also fished along the surface, but you can also get sinking ones. Usually, the are fished in a walk the dog action (where the lure twitches from side to side). In order to do this you need to shake the tip of your rod from side to side whilst winding in at a constant speed.
