Baitcast Reels

Baitcaster Reels are extremely versatile and can be used in many situations. When most people think ok Baitcasters, they either picture an American fishing for Large Mouth Bass, or someone fishing snags for Barra or Mangrove Jacks in the creeks up north. Both of these styles of fishing lend themselves well to baitcasters because they both use heavy lures (it is almost impossible to cast light 5g lures with a baitcaster). If the lure is heavy enough and especially if you are twitching your lure, then a baitcaster is superior as it reels in the line faster. With impact of other new fishing technologies, people are now using Baitcasters for other fishing situations:

Microjigging

Microjigging and Slow Pitch Jigging is becoming increasingly popular. It is amazing how many fish you can catch with these little slugs of metal dropping through the water column. People who do this style of fishing a lot like to use a baitcaster, because it is small and light (like the rods) and lets them thumb the spool gently as the lure drops so that they can detect bites.

Swimbaits

Everyone is going crazy for swimbaits at the moment. These lures are catching a lot of fish but they need to be cast into exactly the right area in order to tease the fish into biting. As these lures are usually quite heavy, they are ideally suited to baitcaster rods and reels. These reels need a heavy lure in order to be casted any distance, but they offer unsurpassed accuracy with the ability to thumb the line when casting.
